We sailed up past Oban to Dunstaffnage marina and then bicycled back down to Oban.

We booked ourselves tickets for the train and sleeper back for a short trip home to London, and then filled the time with a trip around the Oban distillery and a walk around town.

Oban (distillery) is owned by Diageo. We've joined (for free) their 'Friends of the Classic Malts' scheme. This gives the basic tour including a tasting of one whisky. Oh - and you get £3 off a bottle. This applies at all of their distilleries with visitor centres so isn't a bad deal given that it cost nothing to join. On the down side the tours are increasingly catering for large numbers of visitors and are becoming more 'corporate' - for example they ban photography inside. This is apparently only for health and safety reasons, although it doesn't seem to be a problem for non-Diageo distilleries.
